You’ve not got a lot of time to read books to help your business, so here are the best of the best books on improving small business that I’ve found over the years and come back to again and again. It’s a very short list of just two books because they give you all you need to run a successful small business well.

Read these, implement the advice, and look forward to a much more successful business. And if you have others you’d like to suggest, by all means, let me know.

The Secrets of Self-Employment
Secrets of Self-Employment: Surviving and Thriving on the Ups and Downs of Being Your Own Boss

This is the best book I’ve ever read on how to run a small business successfully because it targets all those skills you need when you switch from earning a paycheck to going out on your own. By skills, I don’t mean things like how to do a business plan, I mean things like how to motivate yourself to get things done, how to embrace marketing and not be afraid of it, how to let go of those things you don’t need to do.

All the classes I’ve been to by business training groups, advice I’ve gotten from business advisors, books written by moguls — nothing compares to the usefulness and practical advice in this book. Get it.
